King's English

Congressman Steve King is a big supporter of the the English language! During his career in the U.S. House of Representatives, he has introduced a bill to make English the official language of the United States six times! None of these bills have made it out of committee, but, keep trying, Representative!

In honor of his persistence, we present a weekly post, "King's English."

Each week we give you a way to increase your vocabulary and build your understanding of the language that has served America well since 1492.

This Week's Word: Inconsequential

"inconsequential"

(adjective) of little or no importance; insignificant; trivial
April First is a major anniversary for Steve!  Although all of his sponsored bills have died in committee, he has been able to pass three house simple resolutions* during his six terms in Congress!
On April 1, 2009,  H.Res. 298, sponsored by Rep. King, was agreed to by the House:
"H.Res. 298 (111th): Congratulating the on-premise sign industry for its contributions to the success of small businesses."
* In the United States, a simple resolution is a legislative measure passed by only either the Senate or the House. As they have been passed by only one house, simple resolutions are not presented to the President, and do not have the force of law. (Wikipedia)
